I hope we get there! Stand-by travel don’t do me wrong! (Please?!)
It’s the day before my big yearly trip with my dad, and the nerves have kicked in. That’s right, I get really nervous the day before a big trip. Am I the only one? By this point I’ve put in weeks of work to stay flexible yet be prepared so I can keep it as stress-free as possible for him. Then there’s the question of non-revving (stand-by staff travel). If we get stuck somewhere awkward, it’s all down to my (bad?) flight decisions. The Pressure!
Today I am mulling a choice: 14hrs in First Class (with a proper lie-flat seat) followed by 6.5 hrs in Coach…or 14hrs in Business Class (an almost lie-flat seat) followed by 3hrs in Coach. It’s a tough call. I’m not usually picky about what cabin I travel (heck, I’ll usually go in a jumpseat!), but when it comes to traveling with (should be) retired parents on 14 hours flights…it feels kind of important. Which would you choose?
Go here now. (Or at least on January 29th! Ok?)
I can finally share the news! Contracts are signed and a debut date has been picked: starting next Tuesday (Jan 29th) you can find me chatting about airline life and aviation topics at my new weekly FlyerTalk column!
I’ve known FlyerTalk for a long time, a popular site where “road warriors” and plain old aviation geeks swap expertise, stories and opinions about travel. Think: Ryan Bingham (George Clooney in Up in the Air) would have been a premium member. (You know – if he were real.) Continue Reading

Welcome to 2013, Friends! I’ve had a quiet holiday. Well, writing wise anyway… Personally I was back and forth across the ocean enough times to give me vertigo.
Let’s see, first I went to the US for some pre-
craziness Christmas family time. Christmas Eve I…let me put it this way:
Arriving at the O2 Arena for our event, where you can now climb to the top!
Today I get to do something I’ve always wanted to do: go to the Olympics! I’m a big Olympics fan, and we were freakishly lucky enough to get tickets to my all-time favorite event. So Mr.T and I are sitting at the o2 Arena, waiting to see the women’s team gymnastics final!
I’ll try to post here, but you can follow along with everything on Twitter (@FATravelWriter) and my Facebook page (also as FATravelWriter). Go Teams GB and USA!
The Queen's Official Jubilee Portrait
If there’s one thing I’m anxious to see in London this summer, it isn’t the Olympics. (Although I am psyched about having “won” the ticket lottery with seats to the best event ever: Women’s Gymnastics Team Final. Whoo hoo!) It’s the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee weekend, June 2-4.
Queen Elizabeth isn’t the first to celebrate 60 years on the throne. Victoria reached the Diamond milestone as well, but the Brits didn’t get to throw a hootenanny for her since she remained in permanent mourning for her dear Albert and had become reclusive to boot. So for Elizabeth, a century of pent up celebration is finally popping. Continue Reading
…for BA2012. What’s that you ask? Why, just the most imaginative PR stunt for a sponsorship one has (perhaps) ever seen. (Kuddos to whomever came up with this one.)
BA2012 is the name of the pop-up restaurant opening in Shoreditch over selected days in April. Built to resemble the inside of an aircraft, your £50 will earn you three courses created by Michelin-starred chef Simon Hulstone for the airline’s Olympic-inspired menu.
Why would anyone be so eager to eat in an airplane on the ground? I have no idea. But we are! Continue Reading
